Screenwriting 101

 Hello blog,

Today we will be talking about the process of screenwriting. For some it is a scary process which hopefully we can make less scary. Screenwriting is an easy thing, you don’t have to write something like Star Wars to make a successful movie, write about what you know. If you write about what you know then it’ll be a success no matter what happens. Start by outlining every little thing, get every little detail you can think of in 4 to 5 pages cause once you do that the script will just come out naturally.

When writing your outline you should have the following

• Log Line: 2 sentences about the picture
• Characters with fully detailed descriptions 
• Locations and settings
• 12 point hero journey 

Incase you’re unaware of what the 12 point hero’s journey is, that is just all the acts of the story. What happens at the beginning, the middle, and then what happens in the middle to get to the end. It’s just writing out your story in a small sense so when you start writing you just expand the small points you already wrote out.

It is always good to know your story and characters inside and out before you start writing your screenplay. You want to feel like you know these characters as well as you know your parents.

When writing a script (screenplay) it’s always good to have correct formatting, you can easily do that by looking up free screenwriting softwares on google. Having the right software is everything because then when the right people are reading your movie they will see that you’re professional and not toss it to the side.

• Californication (Television show)
• When Harry met sally (Movie)
• Broadcast news (Movie)
• Breaking bad (Television show)

• The sopranos (Television show)
• Twin peaks (movie and television show)

These are the most important things to writing a film, whether it’s a feature film, short film, or microfilm.
