Is there a Hive Mind at IHOP Restaurants?

It happened one Saturday morning. My coworker came up to me, something pressing on his mind. He was screaming and hollering about the IHOP Hive Mind. "The hive mind?" I asked him. This sparked an entire conversation about a seemingly made-up hypothesis to explain why so many customers liked ordering the same thing. After some time of hearing his argument, however, I grew to believe his reasoning and wonder for myself, is there really a Hive Mind infecting the customers of IHOP?

What is the Hive Mind?

This is what our Lead Researcher Matthew said...

The IHOP Hive Mind is a neural network between a portion of IHOP customers. It's not entirely known how many are part of it, and less is known if they are aware they are part of the Hive Mind.

Essentially, the heart of the mind puts out a pulse or feeling of what they are hungry for on the menu. The customers who are connected to the mind will also be hungry for the same menu item. What ends up happening is most of our customers end up ordering the same exact menu item, even if they have never ordered the item before.

For instance, one table ordered the Cali Roasted Turkey Melt, and then, like magic, the next 10 tables ordered the same thing. The Hive Mind had spoken, and they wanted the Cali Melt.

What does this mean for servers and cooks?

Lock your doors, bar your windows, and be ready for the influx of random items being ordered. If Matthew is true, there is nothing you can do to prevent this from happening, especially since it is not harming anyone. As a server, be prepared to put in the same order for multiple tables every now and then. As a cook, be prepared to drive yourself crazy making the same sandwich all day.

That's all for now. Teenwork_servers signing off...
