Why I Decided To Start Making Music

Even though it started as a joke, making songs and music has become a genuine hobby for me, taking me away from stress and allowing me to truly express myself artistically. If you do not know, my name is Owen Whitman and my artist name on both SoundCloud and YouTube is "CRASY" (pronounced crazy).

I started making music around my freshman year of high school, which was late 2020. My friends and I used to make a lot of YouTube videos, but we kinda grew away from that after middle school and COVID, as we did not find it to be as fun. So, we weren't new to creating things to post online, but never had any experience making music. One day, during remote learning, my friend and I started talking about albums we would create if we made music. So, since I would take things to the absolute extreme all the time, I decided to create my first song. I sampled a YouTube audio snippet of Tyler, The Creators "IGOR'S THEME" and sampled a random audio of this Spanish teacher who would create YouTube videos, and combined them with some random YouTube beat to create my first song. I'll tell you now, it sucked. But I had a great time making it, and ended up actually making an entire "mixtape" (it's so bad I might not even count it).

Even though the music was not great, I found myself enjoying the process of creating a song, teaching myself new tricks along the way. Over the next 2 years, I discovered Bandlab, which is a free DAW that has a computer and app version, that you can create and record music in. This is what really kept me going. I decided that I was going to create a long "album", as I called it, with 19 songs called "heaven sent,". Working on the album was such a fun process and while recording the songs, I found the real reason why I wanted to keep making music, and it was because it was a way to relieve stress. Making songs allowed and still does allow me to dissociate myself from anything I might be worried about, and just focus on making something that I and others will hopefully enjoy. Below is the link to my favorite song from my mixtape "heaven sent," called "spotted", the ending song.

Since this album, I have grown as an artist, but the same thing stands true, making music brings me into a world of my own, and it is a fun hobby that will always stick with me. Being able to do this for a career is a dream, and having people read my blog posts and view my microblog posts is a true blessing, so if you are still reading this thank you!
