Puerto Rico and Cuba are islands in the Caribbean which are about 900-1000 miles away from each other being separated by the island of Hispaniola which is where the Dominican Republic and Haiti are. Cuba and Puerto Rico are two sides of the same coin, from their flags being similar to each other and their history of colonization. These two islands have been through so much yet the cultures of the islands stay vibrant. Both were colonized by the Spanish from the late 1400s-1898. Cuba became free after the Spanish-American war and Puerto Rico became a United States territory. Cuba and Puerto Rico are currently going through many hardships due to poor infrastructure and management. The bad conditions have led to people immigrating to other countries such as Spain, The U.S. etc seeking for a better life. These circumstances have made these countries husks of what they could’ve been. However, it does not stop the people from either island from losing hope for a comfortable life. Many have worked extremely hard to get where they are today and it shows how passionate and strong the people from both islands are. Puerto Rico and Cuba share a deep historical and cultural bond shaped by colonialism, migration, and resilience. Even though both islands have been through so much both have developed their own distinct identity and political path.
