When I first started photography, I didn’t have anything special. Just my Canon T8i and an Instagram page. I used it like my online portfolio because I didn’t have a website or business cards. Posting my work on social media is honestly how I got my first real clients.
At the start, I uploaded everything I shot: sports games, car meets, pictures of friends, and random practice shots. I wasn’t trying to be perfect. I just wanted to stay active and show people what I could do. Over time, I noticed that people reacted more to behind-the-scenes videos and short reels. When I posted the process — like the raw clip and then the final edit — it pulled in way more attention than a single photo.
What also helped was being involved with other creators. If someone commented, I replied. If I liked someone’s work, I showed support. And whenever I met people at Mercer, at shoots, or even at work, I always told them to check out my Instagram. Once they saw my page, a lot of them trusted me right away.

Eventually people started DM’ing me for shoots. Some followed me for a while, and others found me randomly through a reel that landed on their feed. That’s when I realized social media works like free advertising. If you stay consistent and keep posting your work, clients start reaching o
